‘One White Parent Teeshirts aka One YT Parent aka OYP’ (2026)’ is a moving-image project exploring the role of people with one white parent in Black diasporic liberation.

Inspired by a 2018 Twitter exchange in which artist Cecile Emeke was trolled by Deborah of the collective SXWKS after speaking publicly about respecting and venerating all her ancestors, the project takes its cue from Deborah’s unsolicited reminder that Emeke should “calm down” because her father was white. The rest of the Twitter beef is history. Through film collage and satire, OYP continues to explore the fractures, contradictions and complexities of Black British identity, interrogating the politics of belonging, ancestry and legitimacy within the Black diaspora.is a moving-image project exploring the role of people with one white parent in Black diasporic liberation.
